331. Watercolor. Eons ago, a subducting plate of the Pacific Ocean moved east under Arizona. Over 43 million years ago, small lava intrusions created massive volcanic centers, resulting granite like here at The Boulders south of Phoenix. Since then the lava mass cracked and eroded due to wind, rain and Winter freezing temps.

332. Watercolor. After an eight-mile hike, way down toward the Colorado river, you can see pack horses and mules bringing down supplies to the Havasupai Indian Reservation. Surrounded entirely by the Grand Canyon National Park, it is considered one of America's most remote Indian reservations. Havasu (means "bIue-green water") and pai (means "peopIe").
